Welcome to McKnight Signature Dental! We treat our patients like family, taking time to get to know you, answering your questions, and spending time on your dental care.
Feeling anxious? Our dentists have a gift for putting even the most fearful patients at ease with their kindness and gentle natures. Don’t be shy about sharing how you feel. We never judge or make anyone feel guilty.
Your dentist is your health partner. It takes time to build a trusting relationship, and we are committed to investing our time in you and your health.
Let’s Talk about Your Smile
When you first arrive for your visit, your dentist, Dr. Abbie McKnight or Dr. Megan Konz, will sit down with you to discuss your unique smile goals. After all, how can we give you the dentistry you want without learning what you love (and what you’d like to change) about your teeth and gums?
Your dentist will review your paperwork and medical history. Since your mouth is the window to your body, we will talk about any underlying conditions that could impact your oral health, like heart disease or diabetes. We believe in a whole-body approach to dentistry to support your overall wellness.
Your First Dental Exam with Us
Plan on about 90 minutes for your first exam. Our experienced dentists find that when they get started with a comprehensive view of your oral health, they can provide more personalized dentistry that gives you a healthy smile for a lifetime. Plus, this gives us a chance to get to know one another, taking that first important step in building a long-term relationship in a dental home where you feel comfortable and valued.
Your first dental appointment includes:
- Periodontal (gum) evaluation
- Oral cancer screening
- Tooth-by-tooth exam
- Evaluation of any fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants
- Digital dental x-rays for diagnostics
Following your dental exam, you’ll still have time for your dentist to discuss any findings. At McKnight Signature Dental, we take a proactive approach to dentistry because we believe in preventing decay, gum disease, broken teeth, and tooth loss whenever possible. Rather than a reactive approach to dentistry, our dentists work with you to improve and maintain healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.
No one wants to have the same dentistry repeated year after year. We call this “disease care” and realize you deserve better. We plan wellness-focused dentistry that lasts, so you get the most out of your time with us.
What about a Dental Cleaning?
We typically do not book a dental cleaning until this first exam, and here’s why: Just like our dental exams, our dental cleanings are tailored to your needs. Has it been six months since your last cleaning? Two years? More? Are there signs of gum disease?
Once your dentist evaluates your teeth and gums, she will communicate your needs to our skilled hygienist for your dental cleaning visit. That way, you’re never short-changed with a rushed dental cleaning. Every patient deserves to leave their dental cleaning appointment with that smooth, fresh feeling that lets you know your teeth are at their best.
